This proposal accomplishes this by first creating a venue that serves the community, and then answering the question how can this design serve as a successful timeless –yet- temporary venue. This is done by designing a public park comprised of a track, soccer field, and various athletic and retail facilities under a large grass berm with two high line like looped elevated green pedestrian paths. Half of the housing would be built initially to host athletes and VIPs for the events, and after the events are over, the housing that was used to host them, as well as additionally housing will be for the locals. THE BIGGEST AND MOST SIGNIFICANT PART OF THE AIRPORT, ITS CENTRAL BUILDING, REPRESENTS THE SINGLE ISLAND WHICH IS KOH PHANGAN AND THE TWO WINGS ACT AS SAND BARS – THE THING THE ISLAND IS KNOWN FOR, RISING OUT OF THE GROUND. ONE WING ACTS AS THE SECURE DAILY DEPARTURE GATE WHILE THE OTHER ACTS AS A PUBLIC TOURIST LOCATION FOR BOTH THE LOCALS, AND VISITORS. WHEN THE AIRPORT NEEDS TO EXPAND TO ALLOW FOR A BIGGER CAPACITY OF PEOPLE VISITING AND LEAVING THE ISLAND, THE SECOND WING WHICH IS PRIMARILY A PUBLIC TOURIST DESTINATION CAN BE EASILY CONVERTED TO A SECONDARY SECURE ARRIVAL/DEPARTURE GATE AREA. Trailblazing the future, honoring the past, and celebrating the community. Rather then focusing on a major overhaul of the entire space, the new headquarters will combine the current headquarters and the new addition all unified under one large roof. This meshing of old with new under one roof speaks to acknowledging and respecting the innovative solutions already in place that allows for FITT to be so successful while adding additional support spaces that bring in more natural light and opportunities for innovation to take place. The design celebrates the community through the theme of transparency. This is observed using glass throughout the building, as well as opportunities for the community to walk through the building and observe and look on as the innovation occurs. In addition, the large roof presents the opportunity for a new space open to the community and accessible at all times. Consumer satisfaction, the single most important metric in the industry has taken on a whole new meaning in a world where customers are constantly seeking more personal and new experience that they can in return share with the rest of the world. With the rise of Airbnb and other more personal, customizable experiences, the hospitality industry is at the risk of being more and more left in the past. Especially with the rise of COVID-19 and the “new normal” that is to follow after it, the cookie cutter approach to hospitality, especially in hotels is becoming more and more archaic. In a world where tourist and travelers have mounting ways of traveling to new locations, navigating while they’re there and places to stay, Dream Pod aims to be a brand new experience like none available in the market. A truly radical concept that takes the idea of traveling and hoteling to the skies. With the Dream Pod, having your head in the clouds, and being on cloud nine are not just expressions, they’re a reality. Consumers today are looking for experiences that are intimate, personal, authentic, fun and lled with shareable moments. By living out one to multiple days in the sky, secluded from others, or as a part of a large community in the clouds, no two experiences will be the same for anyone. The principle is very simple. Using already existing technologies like hot air balloons, 3D printing, sustainable technologies and cellphones, the pods are created to be light in weight, self-sustaining, and capable of ying as well as oating. The helium balloon would allow for the guest to no not only y, but oat in midair for up to days without ever touching the ground. The structures would be built using 3D printers using lattice structures that would be lightweight, yet strong enough to handle the occupants. The pod would also incorporate multiple sustainable strategies to make them essentially self-sustaining. Curved photovoltaics on top of the balloon would allow for maximum sunlight capture, moist gathering strategies and materials on the balloon would harvest water which would all be stored in the bottom half of the pod. The use of waterless toilets, and water sanitation/storage helps for the occupants to never need to touch the ground. Shipping crates, would be reused and repurposed into dierent kinds of amenities for hotels. Everything from dining to retail, the shipping crates would also act as anchors to the balloons if need be. The Pod also aims to be a cheaper option for construction. Typically a hotel can cost up to a million dollars per room to build, and takes up to 60% of many hotel’s budgets to maintain. All of this for rooms that depending on location sometimes can go months with no return on investment. The pod due to cheaper building method would be far cheaper, and would be made on demand rather than produced in bulk. The future of hospitality, entertainment, business all come together to form a new Urban Core that sets the benchmark for what an urban mixed-use space should be. THE DISTRICT presents a new radical definition of a mixed-use space and urban core. Dating all the way back to it’s earlier days, the neighborhood has been a hotbed for culture, diversity, innovation and creativity. Tapping into these roots, the concept for Meridian and the heart of the design is the manifestation of community- a circle. The circle is broken at the human scale into three circles representing the German, Italian, Mexican roots with the Hispanic circle being the biggest out of respect to the larger amount of Hispanic People in the area, as well as the three districts that make up the neighborhood. These circles are even further broken down into multiple circles and variations of circles representing the diversity and culture that have arisen around the neighborhood as the years have progressed. All tied together by the greater circle which acts as the spine and connection between all areas of the site and the Bayou which harkens back to the days of the trading post. The site consists of a gradient of spaces that aim to respect and compliment the residential portion of the neighborhood on the southwest/southeast while allowing for more year-round active commercial/civic on the northeast portion of the site. Multiple forms of transportation are provided throughout the site which further speaks to it’s connectivity, from bike paths and walk/run paths on both the ground level and the elevated pipe above the site to a light rail in the pipe that allows for faster transportation. then normally needed, and being a mixed use building required the two first floors to be commercial. An opportunity presented itself as the area s also home to many events that takes place on the opposite street. The design takes advantage of the situation to create a building that gives the users maximum views of the site.   Le projet de construction de logements nécessitait un plus grand nombre de places de stationnement alors nécessaires, et le fait d'être un bâtiment à usage mixte exigeait que les deux premiers étages soient commerciaux. Une occasion se présentait comme la région s'abrite également de nombreux événements qui ont lieu dans la rue opposée. Designing a camp site where the occupants feel a strong sense of community and want to gather together, yet explore the nature. There was a need to establish a strong connection between people, faunas, and floras. This was done in a two step process: - Designing sleeping spaces that connects people with nature and gives every occupant a sense of solitude and community at the same time. - Designing a lodge that brings all these elements together in a cohesive way. Combining all the elements of faunas, floras, and people, and designing a building that can also act as a safe house when the “big one” comes that’s supposed to hit the Oregon coast. — Le projet de thèse du camp Westwind était axé sur l'idée de l'éducation par la conception, sur la côte de l'Oregon. Concevoir un site de camping où les occupants ressentent un fort sentiment de communauté et veulent se rassembler, tout en explorant la nature. Il y avait un besoin d'établir une connexion forte entre les gens, les faunes et les flores. Cela a été fait en deux étapes: - Concevoir des espaces de couchage qui relie les gens à la nature et donne à chaque occupant un sentiment de solitude et de communauté en même temps. - Concevoir une loge qui réunit tous ces éléments de manière cohérente. The fabric would have various colors that are elevated by six tapered tree-like columns. The aim of the pavilion is to play with light filtration through multi-colored fabrics and the open triangulation formed by the angular roof. The entire project was built in grasshopper in order to be parametric. All of the structural elements were also tested in grasshopper. With it's addition, it will house new classroom, facilities, and offices. The building acts as a gateway and connection between central campus and the new north campus. The idea of compromise and hope are the key concepts of this project. A project that not only architecturally shows the concept of compromise but aims to serve as a community center for the south side of Chicago, providing the most community driven presidential library in history.
